Pray and Tell – The Preacher’s Daughter speaks of the past, present and future

Defeating one of the most decorated mixed martial artists in the world, Holly Holm dethroned the loved (and mostly hated) Ronda Rousey, dealing ‘Rowdy’ her first ever loss in DRAMATIC fashion, stripping the once feared Judo Olympian from her Bantamweight title.

There is much speculation over a possible rematch between Rousey and Holm. The plan was an immediate rematch – but the nature of Ronda’s KO could not permit her to fight sooner. After all not being able to eat an apple for a few months is not a sign of a healthy competitor.

Wanting to stay active after winning the title, Holly Holm opted against waiting. Miesha ‘Cupcake’ Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is the #1 contender who has fought Ronda twice (once for the title) and came out short. While Ronda is the bigger name on her resume, she’s not looking past Cupcake whatsoever. She feels the women’s MMA pioneer might bring more of a threat than Ronda Rousey, given her scrappy attributes, wrestling background and 4 fight win streak, making her a dangerous force to be tampered with. She’s called cup-cake, but there’s nothing NICE about what she could do to you.

A down to earth and honest Holly Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) side stepped most questions at the post open workout session from reporters regarding the possibility of Rousey. Here’s what she had to say:

“At this point, I’m not looking past March 5,” Holm said. “That’s as far as my mind will let me go, that’s as far as my heart and my passion will let me to go”.

“You’re never promised another fight. I want to make sure I make the most of this fight and not look past it.”

Not knowing what tomorrow will hold for her, Holy Holm hasn’t lost sleep over Ronda or what might come NEXT. She’s fixated on the task at hand.

“When I first signed with the UFC, everybody was talking about the title fight with Ronda,” she said. “I still had to focus on the fights at hand before I could even get there. And right now, I have Miesha in front of me, so I’m focusing on that.

“I’m glad fans want to see things, because that’s why they’re in the stands. I just hope I give them fights that they want to see, and right now, Miesha’s next.”

Holly Holm has proved so far to be a great fighter with an undefeated record. She proves herself to be a good name for the sport and an inspiration to many. But we all know the true test of a champion, and we also know you’re never the true champ unless you’ve defended your belt. Can the ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ pull another KO victory over Miesha Tate, or will she need more than prayer to keep Cupcake from taking that title?
