Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, who is the unified middleweight champion, says that he desperately wants to return to the ring for his fans. The IBF, IBO, and WBA champion is scheduled to face Dominic Wade on April 23 in Inglewood, California.
Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is the mandatory challenger of IBF and GGG must face him in order to keep hold of his IBF belt. Even though the 25-year-old challenger is a good boxer but not in the same class of GGG. Before this fight Golovkin was interested to fight Canelo but he opted for an easier fight and will be facing Amir Khan on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There is still a possibility that Canelo will agree to fight GGG in September if they manage to see off their respective opponents. There has been a lot of criticism from Canelo’s fan following since the announcement that his fight will be against a former light welterweight champion Amir Khan. Khan hasn’t stepped into the ring since defeating Chris Algeri on May 29.
Golovkin vs Wade is not going to be a blockbuster fight either because of the lack of experience and skills of Wade. His last fight was against the 42-year-old Sam Soliman, which he barely managed to win in split decision. If he lasts more than 3 rounds against Golovkin, it would be a moral victory for Wade.
