Eddie And Mayweather Planning A Six-Man Boxing Event In England

Promoter Eddie Hearn and Mayweather Promotions are working on the different sides of the Atlantic to land this six-man fight somewhere around September this year.

Hearn was present in Washington when his fighter James DeGale retained his IBF super-middleweight title and DeGale is expected to fight Mayweather promotions fighter Badou Jack who is the WBC Champion.

Hearn said: ‘I managed to speak to Floyd and Leonard Ellerbe and I’m excited.

‘We discussed DeGale and also how best to work together in matching our fighters. ‘We’re going to do something in September where we’re looking at doing a Floyd Mayweather team versus a Matchroom team in a five or six-man tournament in one night. ‘They’ve got a whole list of guys in many different weights.’

Hearn was also of the opinion that the tournament could even contain multiple world title fights:

He said: ‘The obvious ones are people like J’Leon Love against Rocky Fielding at super middleweight but then you’ve got people like Ashley Theophane who could get a fight with Ricky Burns if Burns wins that WBA world title’.

‘Then at 135lbs, Mayweather’s fighter Mickey Bey is fighting for the IBF title. If he wins that, then we could look at him fighting Anthony Crolla or one of our other lightweights like Luke Campbell for the world title’.

He was fairly optimist about the venue and environment that will surround the event:

‘There are loads of different fights at different levels and I’m excited and they are too. I think they think it will be a lot of fun but it’s just about getting the format and date right. ‘Once that’s sorted you will see that venture coming in the autumn.

‘It will take place in England but it’s just a case of where. Obviously some of the guys are from Liverpool, some are from London. But Floyd will be over of course and we will hope for some decent build-up shows for that too’.

And definitely some big cash will float around the fights:

‘We’re looking at having a big cash bonus for the team winners – either the Matchroom or the Money Team – which would be split between the fighters. It will be a nice team environment going into the fights and I think it will be fun.’
